Frequently Asked Questions

  • Many people come to us seeking weight loss for various reasons—whether it’s to feel better about themselves, improve appearance, or address medical concerns like joint pain or a recommendation from a healthcare provider due to BMI.

These reasons are valid, but focusing solely on weight loss can be counterproductive.

    Here’s why:

Weight loss efforts often lead to short-term results and can harm your relationship with food, creating feelings of anxiety and shame around your body.

At Summit Nutrition Counseling, I take a weight-neutral approach rooted in intuitive eating. This method helps people reconnect with their hunger and fullness cues, fostering a healthier relationship with food. Focusing only on weight can block this process by pushing restrictive behaviors that don’t align with your body’s true needs.

While weight loss may be a part of your journey, everyone’s path is unique. Together, we’ll find the best approach for you.

  • Many factors influence health, including genes, socioeconomic status, food security, ethnicity, age, gender, nutrition, physical activity, stress, medications, and access to medical care.

At Summit, we recognize that nutrition is just one part of the bigger picture. We focus on what we can control by adding positive behaviors to your day rather than taking things away. Our approach addresses the root cause of your concerns, not just the symptoms.

We look at the behaviors and focus on the root cause of your concerns. If someone’s body fat is too high for their health as a direct result of suboptimal lifestyle choices, then weight loss most likely will be achieved when we change the lifestyle choices themselves. However, if it isn't about the choices in the first place (e.g. its genetics, or medications, etc.), then weight may not change.

So lets focus on that instead of being fixated on the weight, which is bound to fluctuate throughout our lifespan (to meet our needs) and is not even within our full control. We are always changing behaviors to positively influence our overall health.

  • This varies depending on each individual. Some people require every week and others every 6 weeks. Sometimes insurance dictates frequency (e.g. 10 visits/year). We at Summit can put in place a game plan that works for you during our discovery call.

In certain circumstances, an in person visit may be warranted in which we can work together to accomplish an in person meeting.
